Replacing REAR HUB SEALS - RA-101-02

Rear wheel removed, as well as the two flat head screws from the brake drum. Notice the third smaller hole on the same circle at bottom center. This hole should align with the screw that holds the axel flange to the bearing hub. It is important to reinstall the brake drum later in this same orientation so that you may re-tighten the flange retaining screw after the brake drum screws are in place and tight. Now remove the brake drum.

Rear wheel removed

Note: - The disc wheel MGA uses one flat head screw to secure the halfshaft flange to the bearing hub (with o-ring seal and gasket). The brake drum is then secured with two more flat head screws. The wheels then attach with the four lug nuts, which also hold the halfshaft and hub parts tightly together. When the wheel and brake drum are removed, the single screw remains to secure the halfshaft, including the hub o-ring and gasket, leaving access to service the brakes.

The wire wheel MGA has the halfshaft and splined hub secured to the bearing hub with the same single screw as is used for the disc wheel car (see photos below). The brake drum is secured with four hex nuts and locktabs, which also serve to hold the hub pars and seals tightly together. This setup does not use the two flat head screws used on the disc wheel car. When the wheel and brake drum are removed, the single screw remains to secure the halfshaft, including the hub o-ring and gasket, leaving access to service the brakes.
