ADAPTER for Aftermarket Temperature Gauge #2 -- DT-102I

Temperature probe adapters Here we have a situation where the short port adapter shown on the prior page did not work. Apparently the first few threads in the cylinder head casting were damaged, and there were not enough threads remaining to hold the short adapter. So Graham Dale in the UK machined up an alternate adapter with longer 5/8-UNF male thread to reach deeper into the cylinder head. This new adapter uses the same copper washer for sealing against the head casting.

Notes from Graham Dale:
"A while back I had a problem with the temperature sensor fitting in the cylinder head and used the adapter from a Morris Minor. This appeared to be a good solution at the time, however, I recall when fitting the adapter that it was a bit sloppy in the female thread in the head. Recently I noticed some corrosion around the fitting so put a spanner on it to check and it just fell out! Coolant running out etc. Fortunately in the garage at home. On checking it was obvious that the male thread of the adapter had only engaged by about 2 threads so was never going to be safe.
The female thread in the head I have does not start for 3mm and is now a bit damaged. In this case there was no shoulder, so I carefully taped it out 5/8 UNF all the way though to the water chamber. I then made a new adapter in brass with a much longer male thread. The sensor access to the water chamber is a bit restricted by the brass but it reads okay".
