Here is a picture showing the front filter assembly from the other side. Again you can see the location of the vent tube. If you want to go to the effort of relocating the tube (cut and weld) there is just enough room to put it about 1/2" closer to the throat of the carburetor if you also put it about 1/2" lower to clear the screw flange on the carburetor dashpot. Take a good look at this part installed on the carburetor before you try relocating that vent tube, as space for the hose near the carburetor body is somewhat restricted.
