Bonnet SKIN REPAIR -- BD-206

If you need to repair the aluminum skin on the MGA bonnet (or boot lid), and you were thinking about removing and reinstalling the skin in the process, you might think again. S L Bryant in Alberta, Canada suggests that if damage to the skin does not extend too close to the edges, you can drill out spot welds in the steel skeleton to remove the central bracing structure while leaving the perimeter frame in place. After skin repair work is done, put the skeleton back in place and plug weld the steel parts back together. This way you don't need to worry about cracking or annealing the thin alloy while un-bending and re-crimping the flanges.
