PANEL SUPPLIERS, Experiences In General - RT-401A

There is a lot of personal experience with panel suppliers sprinkled around the internet on bbs, e-mail lists, and chat rooms. This page is a start on listing some general consensus of opinions, just touching the surface to start, hoping to grow much larger soon. Bear in mind that people comment loudly when they are disappointed, not so much when they are happy, so the notes may be loaded accordingly. I prefer pictures of the parts to support any comments.

My personal experience is slight, but friendly communications, and no problem returning a few errant parts. There have been recommendations from other customers. I haven't heard any complaints (so far). - Barney

Looks like good feedback on eBay, but nothing good to say about his MGA rocker panels.

In the MGA restoration business for many years, they no longer restore complete cars, but they do repair and manufacture some MGA frame parts and body panels. These guys know what it takes to make parts fit.

The new ones are shorter. The California grille is very pretty, nice chrome and stainless vanes. The brackets are out of position. It seems as though the center is off a little and the left is off even more. The hole for the motif was drilled at an angle so it doesn't sit flat against the grille. The stud for the motif isn't long enough to go all the way through the grille and get a nut on the other side".

"Jorge's steel MGA fuel tanks are thicker gauge steel than original, therefore heavier, not my idea of a practical sports car part. Thicker steel does not prevent rust through, but paint does. My car still has the original factory fuel tank after 53 years and 386,000 miles. Why would anyone want to make it heavier? Ditto for the air pan ahead of the radiator, and some other MGA body parts. Read his ads carefully, as he promotes his heavier parts like it was some sort of advantage".

I’ve heard only very positive comments regarding the Kilmartin range of panels. Kilmartin were also extremely approachable. I had a very pleasant conversation with one of the two Kilmartin brothers about their business. My panels incidentally were delivered two days later. Greg Keenan is certainly adamant that the Kilmartin panels are far superior to those from the other sources as far as their accuracy is concerned".

I have mixed reviews on this supplier. Best to check comments on individual parts. Returns policy may border on abusive at times. Apparently there will be no returns allowed for cash back, even if the parts are garbage or if they shipped you something you didn't order (first hand experience on both issues). There are some satisfied customers.

Price list quotes second hand wings in stock and a refurbishment service for wings. Refurbishment may be a cheaper option than full replacement and you get to keep some of the original metalwork.
