PANEL SUPPLIERS, Experiences In General - RT-401A

There is a lot of personal experience with panel suppliers sprinkled around the internet on bbs, e-mail lists, and chat rooms. This page is a start on listing some general consensus of opinions, just touching the surface to start, hoping to grow much larger soon.

AP - Anglo Parts - Belgium
British Car Parts - 12 branches in Europe
Web site: www.angloparts.com

My personal experience is slight, but friendly communications, and no problem returning a few errant parts. There have been recommendations from other customers. I haven't heard any complaints (so far). - Barney

C4 - Classic Parts 4U - Michigan, USA
eBay store: www.stores.ebay.com/classicparts4u

Looks like good feedback on eBay, but nothing good to say about his MGA rocker panels.

CP - Crate Parts (part of Eclectic Motorworks) - Holland Michigan, USA
Web site: www.crateparts.com

In the MGA restoration business for many years, they no longer restore complete cars, but they do repair and manufacture some MGA frame parts and body panels. These guys know what it takes to make parts fit.

JJ - Jorge Cervera on eBay - Southern California, USA (A.K.A. "Jaguar by Jorge")

"I've been banished to Grille Purgatory. The bottom brackets on the repro grille are too short to reach the holes in the body. They are in the right position for the body holes but .... The new ones are shorter. The California grille is very pretty, nice chrome and stainless vanes. The brackets are out of position. It seems as though the center is off a little and the left is off even more. The hole for the motif was drilled at an angle so it doesn't sit flat against the grille. The stud for the motif isn't long enough to go all the way through the grille and get a nut on the other side".

"Do not buy his grille. His after sales service also leaves a considerable amount to be desired. I have no knowledge of his body panels (and never intend to), but if the claims and fit of the grille are anything to go by, beware".

"My recommendation is to find another supplier. He has a well-deserved reputation for WAY over charging on shipping and also for having REALLY bad after sale service".

"II have used only KAS (Kilmartin Automotive Services) panels on 6 MGA rebuilds and have been entirely satisfied. They really do fit! They are made in Ballarat, one of our large rural towns in Victoria. Highly recommended".

"I can highly recommend Kilmartin in Melbourne. I have bought their sills, radiator duct panel and boot repair panel. Well made and good fit".

On December 26, 2013, Thomas Aczel in Australia insists on saying:
"I was surprised to see the extensive range of MGA panels they supply (including Twin Cam). www.kas-kilmartin.com.au/MG Description List.htm
Iíve heard only very positive comments regarding the Kilmartin range of panels. Kilmartin were also extremely approachable. I had a very pleasant conversation with one of the two Kilmartin brothers about their business. My panels incidentally were delivered two days later. Greg Keenan is certainly adamant that the Kilmartin panels are far superior to those from the other sources as far as their accuracy is concerned".

"I have seen first hand a number of their products: radiator duct panel; inner/outer sills; and a few others; the quality & fit was excellent".

M1 - Moss Motors, Ltd. - USA and UK
Web site: www.mossmotors.com - www.moss-europe.co.uk
Moss USA and Moss UK use different part numbers, but can be cross referenced. Most (but not all) of the items will be same. Some items may be unique to one source or the other.

These are made in England, and are more expensive, but it will save you from ordering two sets as I did".

PW - Peter Wood - UK
Noted MGA restorer and parts supplier. Generally good reviews, possibly due to the fact that he uses the parts that he sells and would know if there was anything wrong with them".

SC1 - Sports And Classics - Darien, Connecticut
      Generally good reviews.
eBay store: www/stores.ebay.com/Sports-and-Classics-Inc

SF - Scarborough Faire, Inc. - Pawtucket, Rhode Island, USA
Web site: www.scarboroughfaire.4mg.com

I have mixed reviews on this supplier. Best to check comments on individual parts. Returns policy may border on abusive at times. Apparently there will be no returns allowed for cash back, even if the parts are garbage or if they shipped you something you didn't order (first hand experience on both issues). There are some satisfied customers.

Price list quotes second hand wings in stock and a refurbishment service for wings. Refurbishment may be a cheaper option than full replacement and you get to keep some of the original metalwork.

This grille was being sold by Moss Motors for a while. The current Moss grille for the MGA 1500 model is totally revamped and much better (not from Tasker).
